Privacy Policy

This policy explains the limited data handled by Charleston Residents Directory and the choices available to visitors. The service is a reference to Charleston, South Carolina public-record and directory resources. It does not require an account or maintain a personal record profile.

Information You Provide

A name, telephone number, or address entered into a search form is sent to the third-party provider that supplies results. Charleston Residents Directory does not retain a copy of those queries on its own servers. A message sent to us contains only what the sender includes and is used to respond.

Automatically Collected Data

Hosting services maintain ordinary logs, such as IP address, browser type, page requests, and time stamps. Those records are reviewed in aggregate to maintain the service and understand use patterns. Cookies or comparable tools can support basic analytics and, when applicable, advertising measurement.

What We Do With This Data

The limited data supports operation, troubleshooting, traffic measurement, and improvements. We do not sell visitor lists or create individual visitor profiles.

Links to Other Websites

Charleston County and South Carolina portals, library collections, archives, and sponsored search tools have their own privacy practices. Their policies govern data submitted to them, including information entered into a sponsored search result.

Who Might See Your Data

The service providers that host and support the site process server logs for us. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. We disclose data when a valid legal process requires it, and not otherwise.

How We Protect Your Data

The site runs over an encrypted connection and logs are kept only as long as the purposes above need them. There are no accounts here, so no password or profile of yours exists on this site to be exposed.

Users Under 18

The site is meant for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18; if you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Visitors may have rights to ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data a service keeps. South Carolina research for this project did not identify a comprehensive state data-broker deletion statute that controls this private reference. Because little is retained, requests usually involve checking the contact mailbox and server logs, then removing eligible information. Use the Contact page. Public records held by South Carolina, Charleston County, or City offices remain under the authority of their custodians.

Updates to This Policy
